Shelby Family Chiropractic is pleased to announce that we will be introducing to our practice new 3D animated patient educational software through which our patients can see their conditions in 3D anatomical animations. We feel this technology is a vital tool that serves our patients with dynamic and detailed visual aids which visually explain their conditions and the treatments being rendered to improve those conditions.
At Shelby Family Chiropractic, we understand that the use of visual aids when describing conditions and treatments to our patients can greatly benefit their understanding of the body's anatomy, how it works, and what it means when something goes wrong. From how the shoulder muscles, bones, and ligaments work together to throw a ball to what happens to the cervical region of the spine during a whiplash injury, it is our intention to help our patients understand the extent of their injuries and what we can do to work on treating them. We have been very excited to see this new software already in use, working to assist our patients in treatment on the way to recovery!

Decompression Traction Therapy: A non-surgical alternative treatment for back and neck pain.
What is Decompresstion Traction Therapy?
Decompression Traction Therapy is a non-surgical treatment to help in the management of serious low back/leg and neck/arm pain. It utilizes a traction system such as the decompression traction system (DTS®) to effectively decompress the vertebrae in the spine.
DTS® treatment is directed at relieving pressure on structures that may be a major source of pain. It can relieve pain associated with bulging and herniated discs, degenerative discs, facet syndrome and sciatica (referred pain) and headaches.
DTS® helps relieve pain through the decompression of lumbar and cervical discs and joints (that is unloading due to distratction and positioning). This cyclical, painless setting reduces pressure, promotes blood and fluid flow and improves healing naturally.
25 years of research combining efforts of doctors and therapists has led to the development of this technology. The leading manufacturer of physical medicine equipment has incorporated the most advanced features in the DTS® - creating not only a technically advanced device - but a safe and cost effective alternative to invasive treatment.
If other methods have failed, can DTS® work for you?
DTS® treatment may provide the relief you have been looking for. A common cause of back and neck pain is mechanical compression. Decompression is a direct, intuititve remedy, and unlike other treatments, it can focus its effect at the source of the pain.
Clinic studies suggest that decompression therapy provides substantial pain relief within a few sessions for most patients. After treatment, your doctor may recommend specific exercises designed to help you regain control and strength in muscles that stabilize your trunk.
What about Pinched nerves? (radiating pain)
Damaged discs can cause limb pain in two ways - They can simply "refer" pain or they can pressure a nearby nerve root. "Pinched" nerves create little or no back/neck pain. They are often a more serious problem and may take more time to resolve.
Additional Information:
- Stabilization
- Posture Improvement
- Strength Training
* Our office provides quality, cost effective procedures to relieve pain associated with mechanical spinal conditions. Certain conditions such as fractures, gross osteoporosis and tumors are contra-indicated for this treatment. Since your health is our concern, we will refer to other specialists if we cannot help. DTS® Therapy is also available for Cervical pain & Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Additional Information:
- Patients are given a thorough exam and diagnosis as to suitability and prognosis. Some patient conditions are not candidates for DTS®: your doctor will make that determination.
- Treatments are done fully clothed. The treatment is inherently safe, well tolerated and without complications.
- Virtually all patients report DTS® treatments are painless and very relaxing. In fact, unlike other methods, the DTS® is designed around patient comfort and allow the patients multiple positioning options with the option of supine or prone positioning.
- If you are experiencing neck, back or radiating pain, you should seriously consider DTS® treatment.
- Our office utilizes additional rehabilitation procedures to improve long-term relief.

Chiropractic and Golf
With the increased popularity of golf and the number of recreational golfers expanding, we are continuing to see rapid increases in the number of golf injuries in the clinic. It is this and my personal addiction to the sport that motivated me to seek further education not just in the treatment of these injuries but in prevention as well.
The best way to avoid an injury is to prevent them with proper conditioning and swing mechanics. Golf injuries can very easily become chronic as a result of continued activity, lack of rest or proper treatment.
Factors like strength, flexibility, balance, endurance, stability, power, vision and nutrition all influence body mechanics. Utilizing our physical screening process, I will measure your ability to generate and transfer speed as it relates to the golf swing. I will then isolate any physical limitations that prevent or restrict your abilities, then design and prescribe a custom-conditioning program to address these faults. Golfers need to be physically conditioned to handle the stress that the golf swing places on the body.
We specialize in golf-specific injuries and injury inducing swing mechanics, advanced swing faults, wrist and ankle physical screening procedures, and provide a detailed medical evaluation called the "SFMA" - Selective Functional Movement Assessment.
